For all of you who bank with Wells Fargo, if you receive an unexpected robocall informing you that Wells Fargo has put a hold on your account, or that they’ve run into an issue with your account, we advise you to hang up now!
Targeting Wells Fargo customers across the nation, scammers are attempting to convince customers to hand over private banking information by requesting pin and account numbers to resolve the so-called issue.
In Georgia, Henry County Police Department claim that the automated call asks customers to call an 855 area code number to resolve the issue. When the customer calls, they are asked to provide their social security number, date of birth, zip code, expiration on their card and pin number, reports 9 News.
Once the victim has given their information, the line goes dead. The scammer now has access to their personal funds and the ability to steal their identity.
Wells Fargo has been warning customers of the scam and advising them not to share any personal information to unsolicited callers.
Here are a few quick tips on how avoid becoming these scammers’ next victim:
1) If you receive an unexpected call asking for personal or financial information, do not provide any information and hang-up immediately.
2) To confirm if there are any issues with your account, call the company or institution directly.
3) If you have been a victim or have been targeted by this type of scam, report the call to your local police and the FCC.
