Voices of Hiya: Lucy Targett

Written by Hiya Team | Dec 13, 2024 9:00:00 PM

Each month we feature a different Hiya employee in our blog series Voices of Hiya. This month we hear from our Senior Campaign Operations Manager, Lucy Targett. Lucy joined Hiya just under four years ago and is based at our Seattle headquarters. Read on to learn more about Lucy’s job, and what she does when she’s not working.

What is your role at Hiya?

I am the Senior Campaign Operations Manager on the marketing team. My role is focused on supporting the marketing team’s operations, from the technology we use, the data that flows through it, reporting, budget and finance, executing campaigns, and facilitating all marketing efforts. I also work closely with our sales and sales operations team to ensure the handoff between our teams is as smooth and manageable as possible.

What does a typical day look like for you?

My role at Hiya can be extremely varied day to day, but it will almost always involve the following: checking in on some key reports highlighting our progress on certain business goals (product sign ups, pipeline generated, channel performance, to name a few), answering questions around using certain tools or how reports could be built.

Why were you interested in working at Hiya?

Like many of us who have been working in tech for a while, I’ve had prior experiences where I worked for a company where the product and technology solved a niche issue that might only apply to other businesses and wasn’t necessarily providing a “greater good.” Hiya was appealing to me when looking for new opportunities due to its underlying mission and easy-to-understand benefit to consumers.

What are the qualities of a perfect teammate?

I’m a huge believer in servant leadership and servant peership. The perfect teammate is someone who strives to make the work you do together as seamless as possible and ensure projects are mutually understood and respected.

What do you like to do outside of work?

Outside of work, you can find me involved with the Big Brothers Big Sisters organization as a mentor, on the board of the non-profit organization Undergraduate Women in Business at the University of Washington, and taking dance and aerial skills classes. I also enjoy exploring Seattle and its surrounding areas, trying out new recipes with my husband, and planning future vacations.

Where is home for you?

While I’ve lived in Seattle longer than anywhere else, I still consider multiple places home. I was born in Glasgow, Scotland, and I visit as often as I can, but also have roots in Houston, Texas.

If you could have a superpower what would it be?

I’ve always believed that the superior superpower would be the ability to fly. It seems far more enjoyable than teleportation, while still having the benefit of quick travel. You’d also be able to see many more beautiful places, especially ones that are often crowded or difficult to get to.

When was the last time you took a moment to enjoy nature? What did you do?

I recently went on a camping trip with some fellow Hiyans to Fort Ebey State Park on Whidbey Island. We enjoyed the day walking on a bluff and watching the sun go down over the Olympic mountain range.

What is your favorite book or movie, and why?

My favorite book is Brave New World by Aldous Huxley. I’m a fan of that era of science fiction writing (1930s-1950s, such as Brave New World, Fahrenheit 451, and 1984) and I enjoy the influences it has on many modern-day stories and movies. I also think that time period can tell us a lot about what people were worried about for the future of society and how real some of those fears became.

What motivates you to do your best every day?

In all aspects of my life, I strive to be helpful in whatever way I can. I’m motivated by looking for ways to solve problems and make things simpler (both for myself and others).

What’s one item on your bucket list?

A current item on my bucket list is visiting Svalbard, a Norwegian island that has some of the most beautiful and remote wilderness. It’s an ideal place to see the northern lights and find some peace and quiet in nature.

Stay tuned for next month’s Voices of Hiya, where we will highlight another team member who makes up our wonderful organization.
